This is the trashy and trashy comedy not to be missed on Prime Video and it is brought to us by a master in the field: Peter Farrelly. We owe him in particular, with his brother Bobby, Mary at all costs, Dumb and Dumber, Fous d’Irène and L’Amour Extra-Large.
After a small detour towards biographical drama in 2018 with Green Book, which won 3 Oscars including Best Film, the American screenwriter and director returns to crazy comedy by directing a crazy new film which should please fans and to fans of the genre.

Available on Prime Video, Ricky Stanicky tells the story of how three childhood friends, Dean, JT and Wes, created the fictional character and best friend, Ricky Stanicky. For years, this name allowed the three friends to get out of all complex situations but above all to serve as an excuse for anything and everything.
Until the day when Ricky Stanicky’s excuse begins to raise questions among those around them because no one has ever seen it! To avoid exposing their deception, Dean, JT and Wes will hire “Rock Hard” Rod, a celebrity impersonator with very questionable humor, to pose as their fictional friend. Obviously, the plan is not going to go as planned.

As evidenced by Ricky Stanicky’s poster, this new crazy comedy is intended for an informed audience since it is “prohibited to children under 17”. And for good reason, the absurd humor, trashy tone and sexual references, imagined by Peter Farrelly, David Occhino, Jason Decker and Jeffrey Bushell, are going well in this film.
And it is the character of the false “Ricky Stanicky”, played by John Cena, who catalyzes this bias, usual for Farrelly. The former wrestler turned actor always surprises more in the comic register and it is with this role that he lets himself go even more.

Expect completely crazy imitations of John Cena, who hijack songs by adding sexual allusions, and crazy disguises (notably that of Britney Spears!). The actor really carries the film on his shoulders and illuminates all the scenes with his very charismatic presence and his impressive flow.
But he can count on solid acting partners who respond well to his lines – hilarious most often, borderline sometimes – like Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino and Lex Scott Davis, but also William H. Macy (Fargo, Shameless) !
If you are a fan of the Farrelly style, trashy and schoolboy humor and buddy comedy, then Ricky Stanicky guarantees you an entertaining and hassle-free evening. But if this genre isn’t your cup of tea, then move on!
