How the pricing table works

With the Theta X, Ricoh adds a new high-end 360° camera to its catalog. In order to stand out from Theta Z1 and Theta SC2, the latest addition has several arguments for it. Starting with a beautifully crafted design with the use of a magnesium alloy. The image quality, it benefits from great advances, as the general ergonomics.

Shots up to 60 megapixels

The Theta X has two new 1/2″ type 48 megapixel sensors. You can take shots up to 60 megapixels thanks to the 11K mode, when the light conditions are excellent. In a more classic situation, mode 5, 5K is recommended, it benefits from around 15 megapixels.

For video, it is possible to go up to a definition of 5.7K at 30 fps. This feature has already been seen at Insta360 with its One X2, or very similarly on the GoPro Max. Like its competitors who are targeting a larger public market, Ricoh announces improvements in video stabilization. The more traditional 4K mode can reach 60 fps.

Ergonomics improve

Great novelty at Ricoh, a “wide” 2.5-inch touch screen is now available. The key is the presence of video feedback and the possibility of controlling the small camera more efficiently. Image control is also accessible directly on the Theta X.

Notably for users, the Theta X introduces two new features which, on their own, can be a good reason to change its camera. The battery is now removable and a microSD card offers the possibility of increasing the internal storage capacity to 46 GB.

Theta Bonuses

The wireless connection with a smartphone is easier, but also faster, according to the manufacturer. In addition, a GPS or A-GPS function can be activated to geotag its images. Finally, the Ricoh360 Tours service, which allows you to distribute 360° images or organize virtual tours, is compatible.

The Theta X’s operating system honors the professional-oriented series of cameras by using an Android base. Third-party developers are thus able to create custom extensions to “extend the possibilities” of the camera. User profiles can also be configured with a direct connection to Ricoh servers, in order to carry out specific configurations or update devices easily.

Price and availability

The Theta X comes with a DB-110 battery, USB-C cable, and soft case. Optional: TL-3 protection, to protect the lenses of the 360° camera, and a battery charger. The marketing of the Theta X, already available for pre-order, will begin in March 2022 at the recommended retail price of €999.
