The condition of soccer goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who was seriously injured in a riding accident at the end of May, remains serious. He’s in a coma again. The 29-year-old Spaniard from Paris St. Germain was again sedated by the attending physicians, his wife Alba Siva explained after a visit to the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville.
Rico had previously been conscious for a few days. There are good and bad days, the woman told journalists. “He’s stable, we’re staying positive,” she said. According to “L’Équipe”, the clinic said that Rico was on the mend, but after the end of the sedation he fell back into a coma. This made re-sedation necessary. This means that the functions of the central nervous system are dampened by sedatives and painkillers, the patient is thus in a kind of twilight state in which the body should recover better.

The former Spain international goalkeeper, who has also played for Sevilla FC, Fulham FC and RCD Mallorca, has been in intensive care for two weeks. Rico suffered a riding accident on May 28th. According to the family, he fell because the horse bolted. Rico was kicked in the head by the animal in the accident on the ground and was seriously injured, it said.
Two days after the accident, Alba Siva posted a wedding picture on Instagram and wrote: “Don’t leave me my love because I swear I can’t, I don’t know how to live without you. We’re waiting for you, we love you so much.” Rico’s Parisian team-mates wore warm-up shirts with his name on them in the final game of the season against Clermont Foot. Superstar Kylian Mbappé celebrated his goal with a goalkeeper’s jersey in his hands.
Rico has been part of the team since 2020, but he was not used in the season just ended. PSG goalkeeper is the Italian national goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
