Will Christophe Galtier manage to recover from this difficult ordeal? Accused of having made racist and discriminatory remarks while on the bench for OGC Nice, the Paris Saint-Germain coach formally denies what he is accused of. Outstanding guest ofEurope 1 Sports (every evening from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. live on Europe 1), Alain Perrin, who had Christophe Galtier as his assistant first at Olympique Lyonnais then at Saint-Étienne between 2004 and 2009, defended the Parisian technician.

“I’ve worked with him for ten years and I can tell you that he had privileged contact with all the players. As an assistant, he was the one who was quite close to the players,” he said. he assured the microphone of Jacques Vendroux. For Alain Perrin, Christophe Galtier never made inappropriate comments to any player when they officiated together. He particularly underlined the humanism and professionalism of the 56-year-old man. “It’s completely ridiculous,” he then protested.

A childhood in the Marseille suburbs

For Alain Perrin, it seems difficult that Christophe Galtier could have made these racist remarks which he is accused of given his education and his childhood spent in the suburbs of Marseille. For Alain Perrin, “he (Christophe Galtier) was raised in the Marseille suburbs and he told me anecdotes about him. He grew up in an environment where there were many nationalities and they all lived in perfect harmony”. “He is someone who lived in his childhood among different nationalities, different origins, different religions,” continued the former coach of OL and ASSE.

In his past as a coach too, Alain Perrin finds it difficult to believe these accusations. “With me, we went to Arab countries. We worked in the Emirates and I know what attitude he can have, what open-mindedness” showed Christophe Galtier. The two men indeed worked together in Al Ain Club in 2004. A team in which the Parisian technician composed with players of various nationalities.

A questioning timing

In Europe 1 Sports, Alain Perrin also wondered about the timing of these revelations. He considers these revelations “a little bizarre in terms of timing compared to his sporting situation at PSG”. Christophe Galtier is currently going through a difficult period with the Parisian club, due to poor results with the team since the Champions League elimination against Bayern Munich. The coach had joined the capital last summer, after leaving OGC Nice on bad terms.

Very affected by the situation according to certain sources close to the technician, Alain Perrin is considering supporting him in the very short term. “He is someone who is very emotional. He must be very affected by what he can be accused of because there is no basis”, underlined the former coach of ASSE and l ‘OL. Witnessing and supporting Christophe Galtier is what Alain Perrin suggests doing in Europe 1 Sport. He invites “all former players of color” who have been coached by the coach to speak.
