Riot Games and Ubisoft Announce Joint Research Project to Address In-Game Toxicity


Riot Games and Ubisoft have just announced the launch of a joint research project called ” Zero Harm in Comms to combat toxicity in their multiplayer games. This partnership aims to improve the detection of interactions harmful to players by preventive moderation tools based on Artificial Intelligence. So the long-term idea is to create a common industry-wide database and ecosystem that securely collects in-game data.

A partnership between Riot Games and Ubisoft to reduce in-game toxicity

This news follows earlier announcements regarding the Fair Play Alliance (a grouping of the main video game studios) with the overall concept of reducing harmful in-game interactions in order to offer a constructive and safe social experience for players.

The idea behind this partnership is to be able to use Riot Games’ online competitive games database and compare it to that of Ubisoft, whose catalog includes titles that attract other, potentially less competitive player profiles. Thus, the combination of the two should make it possible to improve the skills of these AIs responsible for carrying out preventive moderation of harmful behaviors.
