Riots: “We need a republican police, we need to reconcile”, assures Alma Dufour

INTERVIEW

More than a month after the start of the riots that shook France after the death of young Nahel, the relationship with the police is at an all-time low. They are currently more than 800 to have taken sick leave, in support of one of their colleague from the BAC, placed in pre-trial detention in the Hedi case. And to protest against police violence and what they call systemic racism, several left-wing organizations, including insubordinate France, are calling for demonstrations on September 23.

A culture of impunity

“I will be there”, assures Alma Dufour, LFI-Nupes deputy for the 4th district of Seine-Maritime and guest of Europe 1 this Thursday. “I will be there because we have a real problem. And I would have liked Emmanuel Macron to ask this question of the necessary reform of the police and the republican pact which binds us to the police, especially in working-class neighborhoods” , she regrets. According to the deputy, it is the “culture of impunity” that has been smoldering for several years that set fire to the powder in the Nahel affair.

“If we call for this march in September, it is to try to move forward on a way out of the crisis because there, we risk landing on a situation which could be worse than that before the murder of Nahel, c that is to say more impunity for the police, when we know that we need to supervise this profession more and in both directions too, that we need to give them better working conditions “, continues the deputy.

“We have a real program”

And faced with the hostility displayed towards the police in certain processions, Alma Dufour assures us that she wants to rebuild a dialogue: “The slogan ‘Everyone hates the police’ I do not find it very clever because we need a Republican police and we need to reconcile. So I think we can ask for an end to impunity for police violence without falling into this. We need to reconcile the police and the population. It works both ways. “.

The parliamentarian wishes in this sense with her political formation to return, among other things, to the law of 2017, the refusals to comply, the IGPN, salaries and recruitment. “We have a real program on the police, we are not here to shock,” concludes Alma Dufour.
