RIPD – Rest In Peace Department: Plot

“RIPD – Rest In Peace Department” is about the police officer Nick Walker, whose greed brought him to his grave. During a raid, gold fragments were discovered, which Nick steals. But remorse catches up with him, and so he confides in a supposed friend, who then sends him to the realm of the dead.

On his way to the afterlife, Nick is recruited by the director of the Boston division of the Rest In Peace Department to work for her agency. The RIPD recruits deceased police officers to patrol the realm of the living to catch so-called Deados. Deados are ghosts who didn’t make it to heaven.

Together with his new partner, Roy Pulsipher, Nick returns to Earth and begins the fight against the Deados. At the same time, however, he also forges his own plan: to stop his murderer.

Hot air instead of hot action?

“RIPD – Rest In Peace Department” tries to strike a balance between action and fun, but the plot falls by the wayside. The film is as crazy as “Man in Black” and seems to have been copied one-to-one, but lacks depth. Nevertheless, the film is entertaining and has some funny scenes. Ryan Reynolds is also well cast for Nick, because you really believe him in the role.
