In Riposte, to watch on Netflix, Jessica Alba embarks on a bloody vendetta to avenge her father. And she can count on the help of a friend, played by an actor that the platform’s subscribers know well.
Riposte continues to sweep everything before it in France. A week after its release on Netflix, this action film starring Jessica Alba is still at the top of the top 10. Despite scathing reviews, it is taking advantage of a fairly empty schedule to become one of the biggest hits of the moment.
If on the casting side, Jessica Alba takes all the spotlight, we find some very familiar faces in Riposte, like Anthony Michael Hall, who plays a corrupt politician, or Gabriel Basso, who lends his features to Mike, the friend of our heroine.
If Basso remains far from action, it is nevertheless a style in which he excels since last year he starred in The Night Agent, one of the most viewed series on Netflix.
The Night Agent before
It’s not easy to recognize the man who plays FBI agent Peter Sutherland in Riposte: with his imposing beard and his cool style, he plays a somewhat loser dealer who helps Parker find his father’s killers.
And if Gabriel Basso has changed, it’s because he shot this film… before The Night Agent, for which he underwent intensive training. Indeed, Alba and the rest of his team filmed Riposte in 2021 in New Mexico.
Netflix waited 3 years before adding it to its catalog, probably to complete a rather light summer line-up. Between these two shoots, Gabriel Basso dropped the beard and trained for months for the needs of The Night Agent:
“I auditioned for this role while I was filming Riposte. I had this beard. When I sent in my audition tape, they told me it wasn’t right. At the end of filming, I asked my team if they had found the actor and it turned out they hadn’t. I shaved my beard and tried my luck again…” he explains in this interview.
In the meantime, Basso continued boxing sessions, martial arts training to be able to do his own stunts and gained weight. Thanks to The Night Agent, the 29-year-old actor has gained popularity. And he will be back on our screens at the end of 2024 or early 2025 with season 2, which he has finished filming.
