Artist recreates Bucha photos in Moscow

Many people find it difficult to get the images from the Kiev suburb of Bucha out of their minds: defenseless civilians, tied up and murdered. An anonymous artist recreates these impressions of everyday life in Moscow and distributes the photos on the Internet. He’s risking a lot with it.

With a courageous art action, an anonymous artist expressed his protest against the atrocities committed in the small Ukrainian town of Bucha in the Russian capital. The person lay down in popular places of the Russian capital with his hands tied behind his back. The action will be distributed under the title “Bucha-Moscow” via Telegram and other social networks. Hundreds of bodies were found on the streets of Bucha after the Russian troops withdrew. Many of the people were tied up and apparently the victims of executions. The images have caused dismay around the world, which is why Western countries are preparing new sanctions against Russia.

Demonstrating against the Kremlin’s policies in Russia or calling the war in Ukraine anything other than a “special military operation” carries with it drastic penalties. In early March, President Putin signed a law providing for up to 15 years in prison for spreading alleged “false information” about the Russian armed forces.
