Riverdale Season 7: Launch

US broadcaster The CW has officially renewed “Riverdale” for a 7th season. It is not yet clear when this will start. What is already certain, however, is that it will be the last installment in the teen series.

Riverdale Season 7: Storyline

In the grand finale of Season 6, the friends managed to banish Percival to the past and avert the deadly comet that would have spelled Riverdale’s destruction. Now, however, the world is upside down again in the small US town, because the comet’s aversion has triggered a jump in time.

Archie, Betty and Co. were transported back to their high school days – but this time in 1955. In an interview with the US magazine Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spoke for the first time about what made him take this step and what is now waiting for the fans after the big jump.

In the interview, Aguirre-Sacasa explains that as he and his teammates planned for the final season, they grew nostalgic and wanted the characters to be transported back to the high school setting from multiple quarters. At the same time, however, they wanted to avoid simply repeating themselves in Season 7.

So the time warp struck a perfect balance between sending the teens back to high school while also trying something that hadn’t been there before. Of course, the series creators also chose the 1950s for the time warp, because both viewers and actors are thrilled every time the characters can slip into the iconic Archie comics outfits.

In addition, the time jump allows us to get to know both the teenagers and their hometown from a completely different perspective. For example, what was Riverdale like before the site was rocked by Jason’s death?

And friends also start from scratch, so to speak, and in the 1950s they can relive “their first kiss, their first love and also their first heartbreak”. So maybe there will be a revival of Varchie give or become Betty and Archie (Barchie) find their way back to each other?
