At the Paris Air Show, Riyadh Air, the second national airline of Saudi Arabia, which will take off in 2025, will present one of its liveries for the first time. There is more to the logo than meets the eye.
Saudi Arabia’s second national airline will not start until 2025. The first Boeing 787 in Riyadh Air’s livery, which the airline is currently showing at the Paris Air Show, is therefore not the first plane in the fleet. The airline rents the aircraft with the American registration number N8572C only to show the first of two liveries.
It was also Boeing pilots who flew the plane to Paris, as Riyadh Air boss Tony Douglas confirmed at a press event before the start of the air show. At the Paris Air Show, the Boeing 787-9 can be seen in the so-called static display, i.e. parked between other aircraft, but will not do any flight demonstrations.
Riyadh Air: What is behind the logo of the new airline from Saudi Arabia
The logo of the new airline from Saudi Arabia is emblazoned on the engines and the tail fin of the Dreamliner. At first glance, it appears to be simply the letter R, standing for Riyadh. But there is more to it, as Douglas explained.
“The logo uses the oval shape of a cabin window,” says the airline boss. It’s the lens through which you see the world. It features “the wings of a bird geometrically represented in an R shape in classic Arabic calligraphy,” Douglas explained.
