From now on, Germans who have been proven to have tested positive for the corona virus are not considered to have “recovered” for 180 days, but only for 90 days. The Robert Koch Institute has a corresponding recommendation pronounced at the weekend.
The respective federal states must now incorporate the new deadlines into their regulations. So far, a nationwide regulation of 180 days applies. It is possible that a transitional period could apply so that people who have already recovered can try to get vaccinated in good time.
What does the shorter convalescent status mean?
Basically, it depends on whether those affected were already vaccinated before recovery or not.
Who before the proven corona infection not vaccinated was, should probably try to get a timely vaccination. The Robert Koch Institute recommends a so-called booster vaccination (also known as a recovery vaccination) no earlier than three months after the positive corona test. From this point on, those affected are considered to be basic immunized. In 2G Plus companies, however, a negative antigen rapid test is still necessary.
If those affected are not vaccinated, they are considered unvaccinated after three months. An access ban then applies in companies with a 2G or 2G Plus rule. In 3G companies, those affected then need a negative antigen rapid test.
Two weeks before the end of the recovered status, those affected should now make a vaccination appointment.
FOCUS Online recommends: The appointment at the vaccination center should be 75 days after the positive PCR test. If you wait exactly 90 days, you may have an “unvaccinated” status of 14 days. Because the “vaccinated” status is achieved two weeks after the vaccination date. It is possible that a new deadline will be decided here in the coming days.
Who was vaccinated and then fell ill, has achieved basic immunization. Three months after infection, an additional booster vaccination can then lead to the status “boosted”. In 2G Plus companies, no additional negative antigen rapid test is then necessary.
Anyone who has already received a third vaccination and then fell ill, needs – according to the current status – no further vaccination.
What do recovered vacationers who are abroad need to know
The RKI’s recommendation could be adopted by the Federal Foreign Office this week.
This will update the entry requirements. Anyone who flies back to Germany and whose recovered status is more than three months ago is considered unvaccinated. If those affected come from high-risk areas, there is a quarantine obligation.
For holidaymakers who fly abroad, the relevant regulations of the holiday region apply. In most EU countries, recovered status expires after three, five or six months.
The airline, the Foreign Office or the European travel app “Re-Open” will tell you what applies in your case. The app can download it here.
