RKI travel warning: Switzerland, Italy – which countries are now risk areas

The federal government has declared the neighboring countries Poland and Switzerland, almost all of Austria and large parts of Italy to be corona risk areas with effect from next Saturday (October 24). The Canary Islands, on the other hand, will be removed from the risk list, as the Robert Koch Institute announced on its website on Thursday.

Great Britain with the exception of the Channel Islands and overseas territories, all of Ireland and Liechtenstein will also be considered risk areas from Saturday. There are also individual regions in Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Sweden, Slovenia and Hungary.

RKI: Germany surrounded by corona risk areas

With the new decisions of the federal government, all border areas with Germany except for those in Denmark are on the risk list. In Austria only the southern federal state of Carinthia is excluded. There is also an exception for two small exclaves on the border with Germany.

Classification as a risk area: travelers must submit in quarantine or negative test

The classification as a risk area occurs when a country or region exceeds the limit of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days. This now applies entirely to more than 130 countries and partially to some more. Travel is not recommended for around 50 countries regardless of the infection situation. The reason: There are still entry restrictions, quarantine rules or an exit ban into the EU.

The classification as a risk area and the associated travel warnings from the Federal Foreign Office do not mean a travel ban, but should have the greatest possible deterrent effect on tourists.

The good for the vacationer: He can cancel a trip that has already been booked if his destination is declared a risk area.

The bad: Returnees from the risk areas currently have to be in quarantine for 14 days, but can be freed from it prematurely with a negative test.
