On the occasion of the Road Safety Day safely through the road traffic – that is the aim of these three apps.

The Road Safety Day launched by the German Road Safety Council (DVR) has been taking place every year with a different motto. In 2021, the focus will be on rural roads, as most people die on them every year. With these three apps, not only drivers can get through traffic more safely. When driving, however, keep your hands off the phone!

“ADAC is it going ?!”

The app “Is it running ?!” launched this year and made available by the ADAC is aimed not only at motorists, but also at all road users. The service is currently available in five federal states and two city-states, namely in Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony-Anhalt as well as Bremen and Hamburg. The app is a defect reporter; users can use it to anonymously report defects in road traffic. ADAC employees process the reports and forward them to the responsible authorities. Little by little, defects such as potholes, illegible or misleading signage, inadequate accessibility or lighting could soon be a thing of the past. “Runs” is free for Android and iOS available.

“German Road Safety”

The DVR itself, together with the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), provides the “German Road Safety” app. As the goal of the application, the developers state on their website “that even refugees know the most important traffic signs, apply elementary traffic rules and thus can move more safely on streets, bike paths or footpaths.” But the makers of the app also explicitly want to reach locals: “Ultimately, this project addresses all people who want to be mobile in German road traffic – locals as well as immigrants.” The app is available for free download in 13 different languages Android or iOS to disposal.

“Emergency help”

In the “Emergency Help” application, users can store their emergency data such as blood group, emergency contacts, allergies or medication. In an emergency, the app contacts pharmacies, doctors and hospitals and provides them with the location of the accident. “Emergency Help” is available as a free download, but in order to be able to use its full range of functions, users have to activate the premium version for 3.99 euros. The stored data can then be called up despite the locked screen and access to medication reminders, medicine cabinets, vaccinations, allergies, quick access widgets and travel functions with a voice translator can be activated. “Emergency Aid” is for Android and iOS available.
