Presented without hiding as a mix between The Matrix and Mr Robotthe short movie ROAM: Rider Of Another Mortal does not revolutionize the world of SF and anticipation — but what it does, it does well.

You don’t have to be a river work to tell great science fiction stories. In Short Fiction, we are interested in the best short films and short formats of SF. Animation or live-action, known or more discreet works, French or elsewhere… All are welcome and will make you dream of electric sheep for a few minutes.

ROAM: Rider Of Another Mortal : deadly melee

Produced from 2018 through crowdfunding, ROAM: Rider Of Another Mortal is now offered on DUST, a YouTube channel specializing in science fiction short films. Written and directed by David Jung (The Possession of Michael King), the work takes place in what we guess is a fairly near future.

The viewer follows a young pirate who recalls a certain Mr Robot. We quickly understand that in this dark future, a technology makes it possible to transfer one’s consciousness into any body. Outraged Matrixdifficult not to think here of Altered Carbon and to other SF works that have already explored this inexhaustible concept.

The Matrix meet Mr Robot »

Thanks to its solid realization, its successful atmosphere and its realistic hardness, ROAM: Rider Of Another Mortal is convincing and compensates for its slight repetitions. And since there’s Blue Stahli in the music, yours truly wasn’t really very objective from the start…
