Roanne: one dead and one seriously injured in a fire in a residence for seniors


A fire broke out in the apartment of a residence for the elderly, causing the death of an 88-year-old woman and the hospitalization of a resident. The other tenants were evacuated.

An octogenarian died Monday February 22 in the fire of the apartment where she lived in a residence for the elderly in Roanne (Loire), while an octogenarian was seriously injured, according to firefighters and police.

In the evening, a first victim, an 88-year-old woman, was found dead by firefighters. An octogenarian who was also in the 2nd floor apartment where the disaster started, was airlifted in serious condition to the Edouard-Herriot hospital in Lyon. His vital prognosis is engaged.

Two other people intoxicated by the fumes were taken to Roanne hospital following this fire of undetermined origin, according to the police.

All the occupants of the residence which belongs to Opheor, social landlord of the Roanne conurbation, were evacuated, including a dozen relocated to a hotel.
