Was the Oscar for “Oppenheimer” Robert Downey Jr.’s highlight? It should be just the beginning for the actor.

The Academy Award for “Oppenheimer” is just the beginning of a new chapter for Robert Downey Jr. (58). “I still have a few tricks up my sleeve,” said the newly crowned Oscar winner to People. The celebrity magazine interviewed him immediately after the award ceremony on Sunday. Downey won for his supporting role as the antagonist of the title character in “Oppenheimer.”

Next up is “The Sympathizer”. The HBO series starts on April 14, 2024, initially only on the streaming service, which is only available in the USA. The series, directed by top director Park Chan-wook (60, “Oldboy”), is about a North Vietnamese spy who ends up in the USA during the Vietnam War.

Robert Downey Jr. embodies several roles in “The Sympathizer” that are intended to represent a cross-section of American society. Downey even shaved his head for one figure.

Team Downey: This is what the power couple’s production company is planning

Robert Downey Jr. also produces the series together with his wife Susan (50). “We’re just getting started,” Susan Downey told People. The couple run the production company Team Downey together. Initially on the schedule is the third season of the Netflix fantasy series “Sweeth Tooth”.

Team Downey has several more projects in the pipeline. This includes a third part of the “Sherlock Holmes” films, in which Downey plays the legendary snoop. Two spin-off series from the universe of the master detective are also planned. The Downeys are also producing a remake of the Hitchcock classic “Vertigo,” starring Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. owes his wife a lot, and not just professionally. On stage, he thanked the “vet” Susan for saving an old wounded street dog like him and “loving him back to health.” At the end of the 90s, the actor was immersed in drugs. In 2005 he met producer Susan Levin, as she was then called, on the set of their film “Gothika”. Since then things have been looking up for him.
