He will never play Freddy Krueger again. But Robert Englund has an idea who could become his successor.

About twenty years ago, Robert Englund (75) played Freddy Krueger, one of the most famous horror characters ever, for the last time. And it will probably stay that way. “I’m too old and too fat to play Freddy”, the actor told Variety magazine. He can no longer film many fight scenes because he has “a broken neck, a broken back and arthritis in my right wrist”. But he would be available for a cameo.

Kevin Bacon as the new Freddy Krueger?

Robert Englund already had a successor in mind. He’s excited by the idea of a fan throwing the name Kevin Bacon, 64, in the ring. “I know he respects the genre and he’s an excellent physical actor,” Alt-Freddy said of Bacon, who appeared in Friday the 13th. (1980) had one of his first performances. “I think the stillness and the way Kevin moves would be interesting,” says Englund.

Robert Englund also has an idea for an updated version of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”: “You would have to deal with technology and culture. For example, if one of the girls were an influencer, it would be interesting if Freddy was somehow haunting their subconscious and would manifest itself” in order to then devote himself to the followers.

Robert Englund: New documentary about the eternal Freddy Krueger
