Robert Redford: His son James died at the age of 58

Robert Redford has to cope with the death of a second child. His son James died of cancer at the age of 58.

Documentary filmmaker James Redford, son of world-famous Hollywood star Robert Redford (84, "The Way We Were"), died at the age of 58 of complications from cancer. This was announced by the non-profit organization "San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation" via Facebook. The foundation stands up for former and active firefighters who have an increased risk of cancer due to their dangerous job. James Redford addressed this issue in his documentary "Toxic Hot Seat".

"James (Jamie) Redford left us with a cancer-related illness … he was a true proponent of humanity with a deep concern for the well-being and safety of firefighters and the preservation of our environment," the post said. "Jamie is no longer here, but his legacy will live on in the great works he has produced. (…) May you rest in peace, brother. And may the Redford family find peace." Robert Redford himself has not yet published a statement.

James Redford is one of four children that Robert Redford has with his ex-wife Lola Van Wagenen (married 1958-1985). The first child of the two, Scott, died of sudden infant death at only a few months. Of the four children, only the two daughters Shauna (59) and Amy Redford (49) are still living.
