Despite worldwide success, Robin Schulz has remained on the ground. "I'm very attached to my home country," said the star DJ in an interview.

Robin Schulz (33) celebrates one success after another. The star DJ has only recently become the first German artist with three diamond singles: "Prayer in C", "Waves" and "Sugar". On February 26th he will release his long-awaited fourth album "IIII", which also features a collaboration with Felix Jaehn (26). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Robin Schulz talks about how he stays on the ground despite his success and what it is like for his girlfriend to be in a relationship with a star DJ. The 33-year-old also reveals the most unusual dish he cooked during the corona pandemic.

You took almost four years to write your new album. What happened in your life during that time?

Robin Schulz: Four years is comparatively really long. Almost 50 tracks have been created in that time. I really had a good run and just used the time to delve deeper into the subject: a lot of exchange with artists and especially in the studio. This time I left a lot of room and air to the creative process. It didn't go very differently from the previous years. I just intensified it even more.

Felix Jaehn is there as a feature act. How was the collaboration? Are you also friends in private?

Schulz: Felix and I get along very well. We haven't had any contact for a while, which was probably due to the hectic touring life before Corona. I was almost always on the move. Meanwhile we have more contact again and I'm happy that the collaboration finally worked. The cooperation with him was really great! You can look forward to the result.

You are the first German artist with three diamond singles. How proud are you of this success?

Schulz: It kind of feels almost unreal. I'm of course really happy and very proud. Above all, to the whole team and to everyone who has been supporting me out there since day one. Without you it would never have been possible!

You are considered a down to earth person. What's keeping you down?

Schulz: I think it's important to surround yourself with people who are good for you. My home in Osnabrück always gives me a lot of peace and quiet. There I have my family, my friends and it just feels like before my career. I am very attached to my homeland. It's important not to forget where you're from.

How does your girlfriend deal with your success?

Schulz: She handles it really incredibly well. I am very happy to have her by my side. She gives me a lot of support and an incredibly good feeling in what I do.

Your trademark is your sunglasses. How many models do you own?

Schulz: A lot has accumulated over the years. I believe in the 60 models.

How has the corona pandemic changed your life?

Schulz: Overall, it seems very decelerated. You have more time for other things. I invest a lot of time in music and other projects. For the most part, however, I use the opportunity to relax a little and recharge my batteries until I can hit the big stages again.

Her father was already a renowned DJ. How has it influenced your professional career?

Schulz: I came into contact with music very early on, which of course shaped me a lot. I was able to get excited about it very quickly because I was constantly surrounded by it. It was a huge part of my being where I am now.

You love to cook. What was the fancy thing you cooked up during the pandemic?

Schulz: I tried a lobster a while ago. This was not so easy. I'm really used to dealing with meat, but that used to be a challenge.

How do you assess the future of the live industry after the Corona crisis?

Schulz: It's very difficult to say. It is sad that so many people have to fight for their existence. I'm not just talking about the event industry. It hits some really hard and I just hope that everyone can stay afloat until normality returns.

How are you personally without concerts and direct contact with your fans?

Schulz: I miss touring and my fans a lot. I've played so many shows over the year. But now we first have to see that we can get the current situation under control. That's just the most important thing.

You have been successful with your music since 2013. How do you look back on your previous career?

Schulz: I'm really overwhelmed by everything. If I had been asked at the time, I would never have thought it possible. I have an incredibly great team and such a positive environment – it gives you the feeling that you can achieve anything. We keep going!

What other plans do you have for 2021?

Schulz: I'm still producing a lot of music. I don't have any specific goals at all, because it's also very difficult to plan. The greatest goal is to stay healthy during this difficult time. I really wish that for each and every one of us.
