What is this robot vacuum from Roborock?
The Roborock S8 is a compact robot vacuum that takes on the design of its predecessors. Its bumper is equipped with sensors to avoid and circumvent obstacles. Reactive 3D technology helps identify objects on the way and mark them on the map. This novelty allows Roborok to take these objects into account during future passages, and to optimize its route accordingly. You can configure the list of objects scanned by your companion in the application, and possibly sort them. In addition to Reactive 3D, the S8 incorporates a laser rangefinder to map your interior. Already present in the S7, the mapping allows the robot vacuum cleaner to circulate efficiently in the rooms, even if it will happen regularly to forget certain places, or to iron in others.
The S8 is equipped with a new brush, called DuoRoller, and a mop and its 300 ml water tank. Roborock promises a more powerful suction than its elders, thanks in particular to the double brush which carries the waste more efficiently, and to the VibraRise system, which makes the mop vibrate against the ground. Particularly effective on hard floors and fine carpet, the suction is not as efficient on thicker carpets. You will have to go through the higher suction mode to obtain better results, at the expense of the battery. For washing the floor, the 300 ml of the water tank are quickly limited and the mop is necessarily less effective when dry. Too bad that, unlike the Pro model, the S8 cannot fill its water tank via its charging station.
Is the Roborock S8 a bargain at this price?
Less than €550 for its launch, it’s a very good deal for a high-performance robot vacuum cleaner, the latest from the Roborock brand. The dedicated application is well thought out and allows you to control your S8 easily. The latter connects via Wi-Fi and the connection is stable. You will be able to manage the information of your vacuum cleaner like the cartography, much more complete than on the previous models. You will also be able to plan a room cleaning order, as well as the time of passage and the vacuuming mode for each place.
In terms of autonomy, the S8 will do its job for a little over 3 hours in normal mode, and 1.5 hours in Max+ mode. He returns to his charging station to regain his strength, and can resume his suction where he left off. Moreover, the S8 station is a simple charging station, it’s up to you to empty the vacuum cleaner, fill the water tank, and do the maintenance necessary for the proper functioning of your robot. Be aware that apart from the rather noisy Max+ mode, the Roborock S8 is discreet.
