Six dead and 20 missing: a falling rock face hit excursion boats on Lago de Furnas in Brazil.

A rock fall hit tourist boats on a lake in southeastern Brazil. At least six people died, 20 were still missing, as the fire department of the state of Minas Gerais announced on Saturday evening. Previously, there was also talk of at least 32 injured people, many of whom had been released from hospitals by the evening.

A video shows how a large part of a rock loosens and falls onto the boats floating on the Lago de Furnas in Capitólio. Two are hit and sink.

Divers were sent to the lake, located around 400 kilometers north of the metropolis of São Paulo, whose canyons are a popular destination. “We are experiencing a tragedy in our state today, triggered by the heavy rains,” wrote the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, on Twitter.
