Music connects, Spotify knows that too. The streaming giant therefore offers all users the option of shared playlists. That’s how it’s done.

Anyone who uses Spotify has an almost inexhaustible selection of music. Many people create playlists to keep track of things. These can not only be shared with friends, but also edited collaboratively. Whether near or far: This is how friends share and manage their favorite music with each other.

The “Create playlist” option is hidden in “Your music collection” behind the plus symbol in the upper right corner. Assigning a name and confirming it is enough: the new playlist appears in the collection.

The playlist then opens automatically, the large “Add songs” button in the middle of the screen is self-explanatory. If you have selected a song, Spotify users suggests similar music that could fit into the playlist. There is also a silhouette of a person with a plus sign in the upper left corner. If you click on this, you can invite friends as “contributors”. To do this, Spotify creates a link that is valid for 24 hours and can be sent to the appropriate people using the usual options – Messenger, SMS, generate a link and the like.

Friends can now edit the playlist together as they please. A contributor icon will appear next to each added song in the list. As the creator of the playlist, you have additional options, such as changing the playlist image or removing contributors.

Let the common music collection grow

It is also practical to be able to add current songs to the playlist at any time. To do this, click on the three small dots at the top right of the currently playing song, radio play or podcast and select the option “Add to playlist”. A list with the user’s playlists appears, click on the playlist of your choice – done!

It is to be commended that the share and contribute option is also available to free Spotify users. However, in order to really be able to listen through a playlist together, the users involved need a premium account, because users of the free version have to live with commercial breaks.
