The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced who they will be adding to their exclusive circle of musicians this year.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its new members for the year 2021 in a press release. In the “Performer” category, the Museum of Rock Heroes takes US rock legend Tina Turner (81), singer-songwriter Carole King (79), the independent band Go-Go’s, rap producer Jay-Z (51), the rock band Foo Fighters and Utopia founder Todd Rundgren (72). Three of them are inducted into the Hall of Fame for the second time: Tina Turner was granted membership in 1991 as one half of “Ike & Tina Turner”, Carole King in 1990 as a non-performer and Dave Grohl in 2014 as a Nirvana drummer .

Düsseldorf band Kraftwerk among the new members

The Düsseldorf band Kraftwerk, blues musician Charley Patton (1891-1934) and US musician Gil Scott-Heron (1949-2011) received the “Early Influence Award”. The award for “Musical Excellence” went to rapper LL Cool J (53), soul musician Billy Preston (1946-2006) and heavy metal guitarist Randy Rhoads (1956-1982). The 90-year-old music producer Clarence Avant can look forward to receiving the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

Every year the museum accepts musicians into its Hall of Fame whose first record was at least 25 years ago, and a “jury” of more than 1,200 artists, producers and historians then votes for the new members. This year’s selection reflects the Rock Hall’s ongoing commitment to honor artists whose music has shaped the sound of youth culture, according to a statement. The induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland, Ohio on October 30, 2021.
