Rocket League changes its gameplay and adopts a Battle Royale format for its new Knockout mode

The Season 6 of Rocket League started in March and Psyonix has planned a little something to keep players busy before the next one. This is’a limited time mode called Knockoutwhich allows you to launch parts of the concept strongly reminiscent of the Battle Royale from the moment.

In this 8-player mode, it’s every man for himself, and the objective is no longer to put a ball in a goal, but to eliminate his opponents to be the last survivor. Of new attack, grab and block mechanics invite us to grab our opponents to send them flying on deadly peaks, with however always the same vehicles equipped with thrusters. It is accessible since April 27 and until May 10, as part of the event Knockout Bash to unlock spring customization items.

The history of motorsport has been built around cooperation and teamwork. But it’s time to break those beautiful alliances with Knockout, the brand new free-for-all MTL. This mode is part of a new in-game event, the Knockout Bash, which will run from April 27 to May 10.

The law of the fittest reigns in this destructive race where 8 players compete with shattering collisions in several new arenas. Most of your soccer skills will come in handy, but you’ll need to learn new attacking, grabbing, and blocking mechanics to defeat your opponents!

Even the most seasoned veterans need a break, so take the time to unlock sweet spring rewards as well as free golden gift baskets by completing in-game challenges. Twitch viewers will also be able to receive Bob’s Gamer Banner Ramen during the Knockout Bash watching their favorite Rocket League streamers compete to show who is the strongest.

KNOCKOUT: RULES OF PARTICIPATION

How does this new MTL work? Let’s cut to the chase. Push your opponents out of the safe zone or into traps to be the last on the field!

RULES OF THE GAME

  • Team Size: There are no teams in Knockout. 8 players face off in an action-packed free-for-all.
  • Lives: Unlike football, there are no unlimited respawns in Knockout. Players will have to watch their backs, because after 3 knockouts, the game is over for them.
  • Safe Zone: A translucent dome surrounds the arena, this is the Safe Zone. When a player is ejected from this area, he must return there in less than 10 seconds, otherwise he will be knocked out. The safe zone shrinks throughout the game, making it increasingly dangerous. After 6 minutes, the game will switch to Direct KO (Sudden KO) mode, where every attack or throw will be boosted to the maximum level, and being ejected from the safe zone will directly KO you.
  • Traps: Each Knockout arena contains several traps, such as stakes and laser beams hidden under the platforms. If you hit a trap, you are automatically knocked out.

MAIN GAMEPLAY

  • Attack: Charging into opponents will be much more useful than just pushing them. In Knockout, a well-placed attack will send your opponents flying into the background. Remember: the faster you go, the harder you will hit.
  • Block: Blocking will turn your opponent’s attacks against them. But beware, this requires impeccable timing, otherwise your parry will fail and you will be vulnerable to attack.
  • Grab: Hold the grab button and charge an opponent to grab them. Charge again to send him flying out of the arena.

SECONDARY MACHINES

  • Stun: Players will be stunned when hit by an attack, when grabbed, after being thrown by a grab, or after an attack is blocked. Players affected by this state can no longer control their car. You can break free from your stun by hammering the restore button.
  • Aim at Opponent: Instead of aiming at the ball, the camera can now aim at opposing players. In aiming mode, the player can move from one target to another.
  • Triple jump: the double jump is a thing of the past. In Knockout, players can jump into the air twice before resetting their jumps by putting their wheels on the ground.
  • Multi-Dodge: Your dodge power has been improved, players can now dodge up to 4 times while in the air. No need to do a flip reset, there is no time limit to keep your dodge in mid-air.
  • Jump: In Knockout, you can jump higher than in any other Rocket League mode.
  • Turbo: The turbo is a bit more powerful in Knockout, allowing players to get back on a platform after being knocked away by other players. The turbo recharges as long as you don’t use it and your wheels touch the ground.

ENTER THE ARENA
Far from the world of football, Knockout has migrated to 3 new arenas designed specifically for the fight: Calavera, Carbon, and Quadron. Collisions between cars end up damaging the walls and floors of these 3 arenas, so pay attention to your surroundings! Players can easily get kicked out of the arena, and any exit too far is final.

KNOCKOUT BASH CHALLENGES
Fighting in the arena is no easy task, but a new batch of challenge rewards should help keep your spirits up. Get springtime rewards like the Florescence Wheels, Monarch Turbo or the Animated Flutterby Sticker, as you smash your opponents all the way to the podium.

STOP AND SMELL THESE GOLDEN GIFT BASKETS
Even the most persistent fighters need to take a break, so why not rest with a golden gift basket? By playing Knockout Bash, players can obtain Golden Gift Baskets that contain an assortment of classic Victory, Accelerator, and Turbo series items. Golden Gift Baskets work the same way as previous Golden Rewards. Complete the challenge up to five times and earn golden gift baskets, then open them in your inventory to unlock items!
