An insider at Rockstar Games reportedly said remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption were planned but scrapped.
The Grand Theft Auto series was so successful that the game’s developers, Rockstar Games, released a new console version of GTA V and remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas.
Fans therefore wondered if they were going to stop in such a good way or if they were going to continue to remaster the popular games of the franchise. And a company insider revealed that they intended to continue, but ultimately didn’t follow through with their idea.
Rockstar should do even bigger and better with GTA 6 Online.
The success of GTA IV has been undeniable since its release in 2008 and the first Red Dead Redemption enjoyed the same reception two years later. And we suspect that most players now expect to see these two games return in a remastered version for current consoles.
The “Tez2” leaker has contact with “a trusted source with clear clarification on Rockstar’s plans” who informed him that GTA IV and RDR remasters were being considered a few years ago. But the developers ultimately chose to abandon these projects.
Remasters of IV & RDR1 weren’t in production, simply in the ideas phase and remained there for years.
Rockstar’s plan was to start with the Trilogy and follow up with IV & RDR1.
The decision to greenlight more depended on the initial reception of the Trilogy.

“The remastered versions of GTA IV and RDR1 were not in production, just in the idea phase and that remained the case for several years.
Rockstar’s plan was to start with the Trilogy and continue with GTA IV and RDR1. The decision to give the green light to this project depended mainly on the initial reception of the trilogy.
It may be disappointing to know that these remasters have been discontinued by now, but maybe we’ll see them in a few years for even more Grand Theft Auto universe nostalgia!
