Rockstar will deprive thousands of players of GTA and Red Dead games

Rockstar Games fans, watch out! The studio’s legendary licenses like GTA, Red Dead and other games are now unavailable for certain players.

Last year, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive broke the Internet with GTA 6. Certainly, the future episode was (again) the victim of a gigantic leak, a few hours before the official broadcast of the first trailer, but it fueled the buzz more than anything else. An incident which forced the studio to advance its presentation by delivering the trailer in the best possible quality, and without any incentive to buy bitcoins. While waiting for the 2025 launch, an announcement made in 2023 recently took effect, and that’s bad news for some players.

A mandatory update to enjoy Rockstar Games games

All good things must come to an end, and that’s what Microsoft said to itself by killing Windows 7 and 8. Both operating systems are no longer supported, and that has implications for gaming. For example, Valve no longer allows access to Steam since January 1, 2024. Users have no choice but to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 if they still want to benefit from it. Other companies followed like Rockstar Games. If you planned to play their in-house productions via the official launcher, and you are still running W7 or 8, you will be in for an immediate stop.

“Due to Microsoft’s end of support for Windows 7 and 8 operating systems, Rockstar Games will no longer officially support these operating systems as of January 30, 2024. In order to avoid possible service interruptions in the future and to ensure continued access to the latest platform features, we advise Windows 7 and 8 users to upgrade to a supported operating system as soon as possible » (via Rockstar Support).

Goodbye to new content, updates and even access to several games, and not least, via the Rockstar Launcher. To continue playing GTA 5, Bully, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption 2, Max Payne 3 and the following titles, you must install a recent version of Windows. Once done, you can return to your activities in Los Santos, Sao Paulo or in Grand Theft Auto Online, the goose that lays the golden eggs of Rockstar Games. Below is the list of software affected by this decision.

GTA, Max Payne, Red Dead, Bully under Windows 10/11… or nothing!

  • Bully: Scholarship Edition
  • GTA 4 and 5
  • GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (GTA San Andreas, GTA 3, GTA Vice City)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Red Dead Online
  • Max Payne 3
  • The black
  • LA Noire: The VR Case Files
Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5, Max Payne 3… unplayable under Windows 7 and 8.
