DFB team tests against Rangnick’s Austrians

Hansi Flick has a lot of work ahead of him to get the German national soccer team competitive for the 2024 home European Championship. The hoped-for progress will be tested in the last international match of the year against Austria.

The 2023 test match calendar for Hansi Flick is almost complete: As the German Football Association announced, the national team will play Austria in the last international match of the year on November 21 (8:45 p.m.) in Vienna. Eleven days after the duel with the Austrians coached by Ralf Rangnick, the groups for the home European Championship 2024 will be drawn in Hamburg on December 2nd. Only the second opponent in the international game window in November is open for the current year. A possible test against Turkey in Berlin was recently reported.

After the disappointing performances so far after the World Cup in Qatar, Flick will continue the international year on September 9 (8:45 p.m. / RTL) with a test in Wolfsburg against Japan. It is the first meeting with the Asians after the painful 2-1 defeat at the start of the World Cup in Doha. Three days later on September 12 (9 p.m. / ARD) in Dortmund against vice world champions France.

In October, the DFB-Elf will travel overseas. On October 14 (9 p.m. / RTL) the USA team is the opponent in Hartford, on October 18 (2 a.m.) there will be a showdown with Gold Cup winner Mexico in Philadelphia. The national team last played against Mexico at the 2018 World Cup. In the first group game there was a 0-1 draw in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium – the beginning of the then botched tournament appearance as the defending champion. A few days earlier, the DFB team had also played their last game against Austria. At that time in Klagenfurt there was a 1:2 in a test.
