ROG Ally: a cheaper version for the ASUS portable console, but…

The portable console war is taking place, and it is forcing manufacturers to redouble their efforts to face the competition. THE Steam Deck of Valve is offered as reconditioned, Lenovo will hit hard with the Legion Goand the ROG Ally ofASUS remains an excellent pickaxe despite its high price.

Yes, €799.99, even for a high-performance machine, is still a difficult amount to come by for many players. But nowASUS reveals today a new model equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z1 processor. This new ROG Ally keeps the same chassis, screen, storage and cooling system, but the portable console becomes a little less powerfulthe price to pay to, precisely, lower the price. ASUS adds:

The ROG Ally is equipped with an all-new AMD processor. Built on the Zen 4 architecture, the Ryzen Z1 is a six-core, 12-thread processor paired with RDNA 3 graphics computing units, enabling full support for AMD’s upscaling technologies such as FSR and RSR for exceptional gaming performance.

Apart from its new processor, the ROG Ally Z1 uses the same components as the Z1 Extreme model. The dual-fan Zero Gravity thermal system, with ultra-thin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes, allows ROG Ally to stay cool no matter its orientation. ROG Ally is also equipped with 16GB of 6400MHz LPDDR5 memory, 512GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, and a UHS-II microSD card slot to expand storage capacity. Support for WiFi 6E ensures ROG Ally has a rock-solid connection whether in a multiplayer melee or streaming from Xbox Cloud Gaming, even on congested networks.

A 120Hz (1080p) FHD display with FreeSync Premium support gives gamers exceptional motion clarity in fast-paced games, without tearing or stuttering, even when the framerate drops. Like its more powerful predecessor, the ROG Ally Z1 has a screen with a brightness of 500 nits, which allows gamers to play even in well-lit areas or outdoors. The touch screen makes it easy to navigate the Windows desktop.

For gamers who demand even more performance, or for those who intend to use their ROG Ally both on the go and as a dedicated computer when at home, the ROG Ally can be connected to the ROG XG Mobile ecosystem of external GPUs. In addition to giving the ROG Ally console additional USB-C ports and display outputs, the ROG XG Mobile offers the power of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPU, taking the ROG Ally from a portable gaming machine with a real concentrate of power with AAA capacity.
