Any PC gamer will tell you, precision is essential when playing with the keyboard/mouse combo, no matter the genre of game. Whether it’s an FPS, a MOBA or a strategy game, you need to know be lively and precise. For some time now, ultra-light mice have become more and more popular. Clean design, impeccable finish, lightness and precision… players are looking for performance above all. And the most popular brands in the sector have understood this well
With its ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition, Asus also wants its share of the cake and launches an extremely light mouse which has only one objective: to become the extension of the player’s hand, to be forgotten, literally, and provide precision at all times. Offered at the introductory price of €160, we now have to see if the Ace Harp Aim Lab Edition keeps all its promises.
Simplicity and efficiency, all in lightness
No fuss, the Ace Harp opts for a completely refined design. No frills or anything else, she prefers to play the most total simplicity. It also targets a very wide audience since it is based on an almost completely symmetrical and therefore ambidextrous design, except for one detail. On its left edge, the mouse has two buttons that are not found on its other side. A detail perhaps, but left-handers will have a hard time reaching them with the little or ring finger, where they fall perfectly under the thumb for right-handers. We may also regret that there are not more buttons, very popular with fans of shortcuts, but it is difficult to aim for a weight below 60 grams by adding buttons everywhere.
Under the mouse, we will also find 3 small switches around the sensor. A first button is used to juggle between the different sensitivity profiles (Dpi), while the other two are linked to the different mouse connectivity systems. A switch will allow you to go from Bluetooth to 2.4Hz wireless or wired with a simple movement and the last one will be used to pair the mouse to your Bluetooth device. Simple and efficient. Note that, as is often the case with ROG, the USB dongle is very small and fits neatly under the mouse. The Ace Harp Aim Lab Edition also benefits from the same technology as the ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless keyboard, which allows it to use a single dongle with other compatible devices. The cable, for its part, is always of excellent quality, reinforced, long and anti-twist. You can use it on a daily basis or simply use it to recharge the mouse battery, which has excellent battery life by the way (more than 70 hours depending on use).
Impeccable ergonomics
In the hand, the mouse is perfectly adapted to the different positions of the fingers and palm. Whether you’re used to holding your device with your whole hand or with your fingertips, its design will definitely keep you comfortable without compromising its capabilities and allowing you to handle it efficiently.
Its objective is to offer optimal comfort of use and pinpoint precision. This is also why Asus has opted for an ultra-light material based on bio-sourced nylon. The result on the scale is clear, the mouse only weighs 54g, it’s quite impressive and may even throw less accustomed hands off-putting at first. To the touch, however, it is a little less attractive. The material is quite grainy, it is neither very pleasant nor deeply unpleasant. A gentle touch would definitely have been beneficial. Despite this small hitch which will mainly be a personal assessment for everyone, the ROG Harpe Ace benefits from impeccable finishing and ergonomics.
An ultra precise mouse
With an in-house ROG AimPoint sensor, the ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition can boast of offering quite enormous precision. 36,000 dpi, 650 Ips capable of withstanding accelerations of 50g, behind these dizzying figures hides nothing more and nothing less than one of the best pointers on the market. The precision and responsiveness of the mouse are assured. The most nervous players will certainly find the ideal companion here. The movements are finely transcribed, the light weight of the mouse almost makes us forget that it is resting under our hand and aiming becomes instinctive. In terms of performance, it is clearly flawless and tuning enthusiasts can also rely on excellent software support.
The Ace Harp Aim Lab Edition knows how to surround itself
ROG Harp Ace Aim Lab Edition, its name speaks for itself. Asus has teamed up with the popular aim training game/software to offer automatic and responsive settings. By launching the game (available on Steam and the Epic Games Store for free) you can take on ROG-branded events. In principle, they are very similar to what we find on Aimlabs, namely, shooting on target in different conditions in order to refine your aim. But once these tests are completed, Aimlabs draws an ideal profile for your mouse and offers settings adapted to your skills and your aiming style.
Purists may swear by their settings, but for any other gamers it could be extremely useful. After putting Aimlabs to the test several times, I am forced to admit that I am more than surprised by the parameters proposed, particularly fair with regard to my profile. Everyone will now find midi on their doorstep, but it is in any case rather effective for the average player. Of course, the mouse can also be configured in a very traditional way via the in-house Armory Crate software. Regulars of the brand will not be disoriented.
