Queen drummer Roger Taylor was made an OBE on Wednesday. He dedicated the royal order to the late Taylor Hawkins.

Roger Taylor (72) was honored with the British Order of Knights Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on Wednesday. The Queen drummer was honored for his musical achievements at the ceremony by Prince Charles (73) at Windsor Castle. He dedicated the award to “one of his best friends,” the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins (1972-2022).

Taylor explained according to The Independent, he is still “devastated” and trying to come to terms with the fact that he will “never see him again”. The 72-year-old, who Hawkins counted among his greatest musical role models, also revealed that the 50-year-old had acted as a mentor to his own son. Rufus Taylor (31) is the drummer for the English rock band The Darkness. “My family and his were very close. He was what my wife called him, sunshine in human form. He was the most wonderful person.”

Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in the Colombian capital Bogotá on Friday evening (March 25). The musician was 50 years old. First details from the toxicological investigation, which had been published by the Colombian police and Attorney General’s Office, state that ten different “substances” were found in the dead musician’s body.
