Rohwedder – Unity and Murder and Freedom: On a murder hunt with the first German Netflix documentary series

An unsolved murder is re-investigated by Netflix. "Rohwedder – Unity and Murder and Freedom" is the first German documentary series.

Netflix takes on one of the most prominent unsolved murder cases of the German post-war period. With "Rohwedder – Einigkeit und Mord und Freiheit" (Unity and Murder and Freedom), the streaming provider will for the first time be a German documentary series on September 25th. It is about the murder of Detlev Karsten Rohwedder on April 1, 1991, at the time head of the Deutsche Treuhandanstalt, the largest company in the world at the time.

Rohwedder and his employees were responsible for the restructuring and privatization of the entire economy of the former GDR. A shot from a distance of 62 meters tore the company boss from his life. The perpetrators could not be identified at the scene of the crime despite letters confessing them from the Red Army faction.

Who would have benefited?

Who had a motive? The documentary series aims to answer this question. In four episodes of 40 minutes each, four different perspectives on Rohwedder are given to find out who could have benefited most from his death. Netflix commissioned the Berlin brothers beetz filmproduction to implement "Rohwedder – Unity and Murder and Freedom" (international title: "A Perfect Crime").
