Roland-Garros 2024: how much will the players earn?

For almost three weeks, the Porte d’Auteuil will vibrate to the rhythm of the little yellow ball. The 2024 edition of the Roland-Garros tournament, of which Europe 1 is the official radio station, begins this Monday with the qualifications, before the first round of the main draw for women and men, to be followed from Sunday May 26. As it has become accustomed to for several years, the organization of the Parisian Grand Slam has once again shown itself generous towards the athletes by significantly increasing the prize money.

Support for those eliminated early

Participants will be able to share nearly 53.478 million euros this year, compared to 49.6 million euros last year. The prize pool for the main singles draw thus recorded an increase of 7%. A significant effort was made in the first three rounds of the main draw. For the matches of the second week, the increase remains more measured.

Note that these rewards are perfectly equal. In detail, the winner will pocket nearly 2.4 million euros, while someone eliminated in the first round will be able to console themselves with the tidy sum of 73,000 euros.

The allocation of the main draw of the men’s and women’s singles, round by round:

Winner : 2.4 million euros
Finalist : 1.2 million euros
Semi-finalist : 650,000 euros
Quarter-finalist : 415,000 euros
Eighth finalist : 250,000 euros
Third round : 158,000 euros
Second turn : 110,000 euros
First round : 73,000 euros

The other financial effort made by the tournament concerns the qualifying events, now called “Opening Week”. As a reminder, this is a must for players ranked between 100th and 230th place in the world and who have not had the chance to benefit from a wild card. Among the 128 participants, only 16 obtained their tickets for the rest of the competition. These qualifying events therefore benefit from an increase in funding of 24.65%. Someone eliminated in the first round of qualifying will pocket 20,000 euros, compared to 28,000 in the second round and finally 41,000 for those who fail to reach the final table.

Finally, the prize pools have been very slightly increased compared to last year for the other events of the fortnight such as the doubles, mixed doubles, or even wheelchair tennis tournaments. The doubles pair that wins the final will receive the sum of 590,000 euros, compared to 122,000 euros for the mixed pairs.
