Iga Swiatek qualified for her fourth final at Roland-Garros this Thursday by defeating the American Coco Gauff in the semi-final (6-2 / 6-4). Undisputed queen of women’s tennis, she will try on Saturday to win a third title in a row on Parisian clay.

Iga Swiatek has once again made the powder speak. The Pole, world number 1, dismissed the American Coco Gauff (3rd at the WTA) in the semi-final of Roland-Garros. After a flying first set (6-2), the debates were slightly balanced in the second round, but it was the current queen of women’s tennis who had the last word (6-4). Double title holder, three-time winner at Porte d’Auteuil, Iga Swiatek will try on Saturday to once again write her name on the list of winners of the prestigious Parisian tournament. She will face the Italian Jasmine Paolini (12th) or the young Mirra Andreeva (17 years old and 38th in the world).

For her part, Coco Gauff once again failed against the world number 1 on Parisian ocher. Beaten in the quarter-final by the same Iga Swiatek last year, she had already stumbled, on the verge of the coronation, in front of the Pole two years ago. Aggressive, the American did not know how to maintain the regularity necessary to make the Varsovienne falter, once again imperial.

Particularly in the first set, won 6-2 after 37 minutes of play. Broken from the start, Gauff had no other choice but to chase the score and the passing balls. Completely in control, Swiatek ended up concluding with her serve before a tighter second set which the American nevertheless took from the right end. At 2-1, she manages to take her opponent’s serve and widens a slight gap… which the Pole only took one game to fill. Back at 3-2, Swiatek picks up and takes control of the game by in turn seizing the service of Coco Gauff.

Refusing to abdicate, the American, although on the edge of the precipice, managed to delay the deadline and force the Pole to serve to win the match. A formality for the world number 1 who concluded in 1 hour and 36 minutes of play. “It was very intense, in the 2nd set, it was very close, but I managed to be consistent tactically,” reacted Swiatek at the end of the meeting. The Polish woman, who came close to the exit in the 2nd round against the Japanese Naomi Osaka, will seek a third consecutive title on Saturday on center court.
