Rolls-Royce: Semiconductor factories adopt MTUs

(CercleFinance.com) – Rolls-Royce announced last night that it is supplying 70 of its mtu 4000 series engines, produced by its Chinese joint venture MTU Yuchai Power, to Hefei Calsion Electric System Co, a Chinese distributor of emergency power systems.

These generating sets are intended to be installed at several semiconductor manufacturing sites in China in order to compensate for any power cuts and guarantee regular production of chips.

The semiconductor manufacturing process is indeed very sensitive: a power outage of a few minutes can lead to the scrapping of the entire production chain.

The MTUs will allow immediate switching between mains power and diesel engines, helping to ensure stable and smooth operation of production lines.

“China has always been an important strategic market for Rolls-Royce and this project demonstrates once again that mtu motors are recognized by the Chinese market as a reliable solution to support its semiconductor manufacturers,” said Lang Yun. , Vice President Stationary Power Solutions Greater China for Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division.
