Through a Skype interview, Romain Grosjean delivered with emotion. "I remember the whole episode. I didn't lose consciousness, which is a miracle in and of itself", he stressed before continuing: "If I had lost consciousness, I wouldn't be here to talk to you." The young father then remembered the immeasurable efforts he had to make to get out of his Haas. "I fought to try to get out of this burning car. I didn't have a lot of room to get there ", he explained. To believe his words, it was his sons and daughter who saved him from this nightmare and enabled him to escape a tragic end. "At one point I thought I couldn't do it and it was over, then I found a last breath thinking hard of my children and telling myself that it couldn't stop like that, now in Bahrain, and the moment my shoulders went through and I felt like I got out of the car, it was a bit of deliverance ", did he declare. And to conclude: "Certainly my hands were in bad shape, but the feeling of being out of this blaze was extraordinary. " A poignant testimony, delivered with a smile.

"I haven't totally decided to quit"

During this interview, Romain Grosjean also clarified that he had "not yet fully decided to quit" his career, contrary to what he had been able to announce a few days earlier. "Like Jean (Todt, note), we are not always in control of our destiny, so in Formula 1 for the moment it seems that it is over. I look at what are the opportunities for the future ", added the Franco-Swiss before pointing out that his son "Sacha, asked him to stop car racing" and that he exchanged a lot with his family. "At the same time, they know that if I don't have car racing, if I hadn't had this passion, to experience something that animated me like that, I wouldn't have been the man I am. I hope I will be able to find a solution and be at peace with my decision", he confided, with an open heart.

"A magical love shield"

This is not the first time that Romain Grosjean talks about his childrens since he nearly lost his life in that accident. A few hours after having come close to death, he had revealed what his second son had slipped him to give it back strength, in an interview with LCI and TF1 : "That I had magical power, a shield of magical love that protected me. The youngest one drew me a picture. " With his wife, they are the happy parents of three children, Sacha, seven, Simon, five, and Camille, one. A very close-knit family.
