Romande Energie contests the 2017 regulated tariffs at the TAF

Geneva (awp) – Romande Energie, through its subsidiary Romande Energie Commerce, will challenge before the Federal Administrative Court a decision of the Federal Electricity Commission (Elcom) on the regulated electricity tariffs for 2017. The group morgien opposes the retroactive application of the prices in question.

Rendered recently, Elcom’s decision closes a procedure started in 2019, recalls Romande Energie on Friday. The disagreement between the commission and the Vaudois energy company relates to the manner of applying a provision of the Federal Law on electricity supply concerning captive customers.

The legislation thus obliges network operators to pass on proportionally the benefit they derive from free access to the network, so that “captive consumers do not pay much higher prices than large customers with access to free competition”, specifies the press release.

In order to apply this provision, Elcom has developed the average price method, “contested in practice”, says Romande Energie. The group ensures that its practice – unchanged since the entry into force of the law – has favored the interests of its customers, because it allows them to be protected from high price volatility.
