The city of Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme) experienced a night of urban violence on Friday, when individuals lit fires and attacked the police in response to the arrest of a teenager who was riding a wild rodeo.
The facts started on Thursday evening, when exasperated residents called the municipal police to put an end to a gathering of individuals on two-wheelers. On the spot, the agents saw the driver of a motocross going in their direction. They would then have positioned their vehicle in such a way as to force it to stop, indicates Actu17.
The driver did nothing and tried to continue his race. He then allegedly fell from his vehicle. Immediately arrested, the 17-year-old boy, known to the police, was taken to hospital, where no ITT was prescribed to him, his state of health having been deemed good.
While the agents had been taken to task at the time of the arrest, targeted in particular by projectiles, around twenty individuals then went to the hospital to see the driver, without success.
Barricades, burnt cars, attacked company…
A few hours later, near midnight, around fifty people with masked faces gathered in the Monnaie district, which built the barricades. Garbage cans and two vehicles were burned. A company was even targeted, with an employee beaten, around sixty windows smashed and a car stolen.
The security forces had to use nearly 70 tear gas canisters and LBD shots to disperse the offenders. They used firework mortars against the police. Calm returned in the middle of the night. An investigation has been opened into the violence.
