Ronald Bell: Co-founder of Kool & the Gang has passed away

The US musician Ronald Bell is dead. He died at the age of 68. He became famous as a co-founder of the disco group Kool & the Gang.

The American musician and Kool & the Gang co-founder Ronald Bell (1951-2020) died at his home in the Virgin Islands at the age of 68. This is unanimously reported by the US media. There are as yet no reliable reports on the exact circumstances, the band's management has now confirmed the death to the AFP news agency.

A Grammy for Kool & the Gang

Together with his brother Robert and five other friends, Bell founded the soul, funk and disco formation at the beginning of the 1960s, which was particularly popular in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like "Celebration" and "Ladies Night" celebrated international success. In 1978 Kool & the Gang won a Grammy for their contribution to the music of the classic film "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) with John Travolta (66) in the lead role.

By the end of the 80s at the latest, after the disco era had died down, it became more and more quiet around the band and their singer, keyboard player and saxophonist. Ronald Bell was also known by his Muslim name, Khalis Bayyan. The musician was married to Tia Sinclair to the end, with whom he has ten children.
