Roof topping ceremony – Wien Museum: The first exhibits will move in soon

The renovation of the building on Karlsplatz is on schedule. The budget plan is still holding for the time being. And a whale moves in.

Work has been in full swing on the new Wien Museum on Karlsplatz for two years. It is scheduled to open its doors in spring 2023. Despite the tight schedule, there must also be time for a break. Now the roof topping has been celebrated. More exhibits than ever before Here, City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler and Porr boss Karl-Heinz Strauss gave an insight into the development. Kaup-Hasler: “Not only the building itself will shine in new splendor. The permanent exhibition on the history of the city is being redesigned with more exhibits and interactive elements. The central hall offers plenty of space for this. For example, the Praterwal, which is more than ten meters long, will be floating from the ceiling in the future. Incidentally, this will move in during construction, as it will no longer fit through the doors afterwards. Schedule and budget are still in place Strauss: “With the renovation and expansion of the Wien Museum, we are now giving the history of this city a home that is modern, spacious and is absolutely befitting.” The aim is to hand over the museum on time in March and on budget. Nevertheless, the current, uncertain situation is of course also a challenge. Whether the costs are actually within the approved 108 million will only become apparent in the coming months. In terms of energy supply, the museum relies on sustainability with geothermal energy and possibly also photovoltaics on the roof.
