Carole Gaessler is at the head of a new issue of the magazine Roots and Wings, this Wednesday, September 28 at 9 p.m. on France 3. A program dedicated to Egypt on the occasion of the bicentenary of the deciphering of hieroglyphs by Jean-François Champollion and the centenary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen. Two reports will be offered to France 3 viewers this Wednesday. The first will be devoted to Jean-François Champollion and Ramses II.
The first of the two managed to decipher the hieroglyphics on September 27, 1822. Six years later, he made his one and only trip to Egypt, from Alexandria to the temple of Abu Simbel. He was then the first to read the history of this great civilization on the walls. As for Ramses II, at the head of the Egyptian people for 66 years, father of 103 children, he is considered the greatest pharaoh in the history of Egypt. Even today, doctors and forensic experts continue to unravel the mysteries of this pharaoh and have even managed to restore his face in 3D.
Roots and wings: at the heart of Egyptomania, a French passion
The second report of the evening will be devoted to Egyptomania, a French passion. The links between France and Egypt are multiple. From the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde, brought back by Jean-François Champollion, to the Sèvres factory where craftsmen regularly request works with Egyptian symbolism, this country and ours are forever linked.
This Roots and Wings issue is the 485th and the first of season 26 of the France 3 magazine, created in November 1997. They were 2.5 million viewers on June 1, before the episode devoted to Elizabeth II, the last of season 25.
