The top seeded Russian had to admit defeat to the French in two sets on his return in Geneva.

Daniil Medvedev (ATP 2) has to suffer a clear 2-set defeat on his return to the ATP tour. The top seeded Russian lost to Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the round of 16 in Geneva 2: 6, 6: 7 (5: 7). For the second in the world rankings, the game on the shores of Lake Geneva was the first serious fight since the end of March and the quarter-finals in Miami.

Hardly any game practice before the French Open

At that time, Medvedev subsequently had to undergo groin surgery. In French-speaking Switzerland, the 26-year-old played on sand for the first time in 6 weeks and for the first time this season. However, the Russian failed thoroughly in preparing for the upcoming French Open.

Medvedev improved after a faulty opening sentence in the second round and was able to react to his opponent’s service breakthrough again. In the tie-break, however, the Russian had to admit defeat to his opponent. Particularly annoying: Ironically, a double fault put the end of a botched tour comeback for Medvedev.
