French rower Hugo Boucheron, gold medalist in double sculls with Matthieu Androdias eight months ago at the Tokyo Games, announced that he was suffering from “small depressionpost-Olympic and renounces the French Short Boat Championships in three weeks.
“Since the return of the Games, it is difficult for me to find the desire, the energy. The last two years have been tough mentally“wrote Hugo Boucheron in a message published Thursday on his Facebook account.
“Since the recovery, I no longer feel pleasure but I only see constraint, I find it difficult to chain training sessions, I lose patience, concentration is almost impossible. Since the beginning of winter, my old demons have resurfaced“, he added.
“I’ve been working with competent people for a month to get me out of this, from a little post-Olympic depression. The word + depression + is not a bad word, just a condition that needs to be treated.»
Boucheron will therefore not take part in the French Short Boat Championships, scheduled for April 15 to 17 in the Cazaubon basin (Gers).
“The goal for me is to find meaning that will bring me energy. With the staff and the Federation, we set ourselves the objective of progressive stages before a return to the international scene.“, concluded Boucheron, who is also double European champion (2018 and 2020) and world champion (2018) with Androdias.
The European Championships are scheduled from August 11 to 14 in Munich (Germany), while the Worlds will take place from September 18 to 25 in Racice (Czech Republic).
