There’s a former princess who makes dark pop music? Yes, namely Mafalda of Bulgaria! She belongs to the series of royals that nobody knows – but that should change as soon as possible.

In addition to Prince Harry, 37, Princess Victoria, 44, and Co., there are also royals that no one has ever had on the screen. Ex-Princess Mafalda of Bulgaria, 27, is such a person. The Bulgarian royal family may only exist in history books, but the life of the stylish British pop singer is no less exciting.

Royals that nobody knows: ex-princess Mafalda of Bulgaria

Mafalda Cecilia von Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Koháry was born as the granddaughter of Simeon II of Bulgaria, the last Tsar of the Kingdom of Bulgaria and later Prime Minister, born in London. The daughter of aristocrat Rosario Nadal, 53, a Spanish art director, and ex-Prince Kyril of Preslav, 57, Mafalda grew up surrounded by wealth and pomp in Britain – but always spent her summers in Mallorca, her father’s Spanish homeland.

But it quickly became clear that Mafalda wanted to go her own way and not rest on her family’s behalf. After growing up in London, she moved to the USA to pursue her dream. There, the former royal studied for three years at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where well-known stars such as musician John Mayer, 44, or music producer Quincy Jones, 44, graduated. After studying in Boston, she moved to New York in 2017. The princess became an artist with a soft voice.

Mafalda makes a career as a pop singer

Mafalda’s first single “Don’t let go” was released in 2015. Four years later, in 2019, the native Londoner released her first album “Daisy Chain” under the name Mafalda. Probably the first highlight of her singing career. Her song “Hate Me Right” from 2018 has now been played almost half a million times on the Stotify streaming platform.

Another highlight follows in February 2020: She played a sold-out concert in Madrid, Spain – and surprised everyone with her Spanish singing. A few months later, in November 2020, Mafalda released her first single in her father’s native language: “Decir Adiós” (en: “Say goodbye”).

Their music is often personal. Of the song’s meaning, she said, “It’s about the distancing over time, the difficulty of dealing with a breakup, and the acceptance that relationships may not be what we initially expected. It’s about the courage to say goodbye.” The Brit describes her style of music as “dark pop”.

Planning an island wedding soon?

In private, the wedding bells are said to be ringing for Mafalda in May of this year. As the magazine “HOLA!” The 27-year-old is said to have said yes to her long-term partner Marc Abousleiman, a Harvard graduate in computer science, on the Balearic island of Mallorca.

The couple has not yet confirmed the rumours. The place would definitely fit! Her parents also got married there in 1989, in the Capilla de Santa Ana of the Almudaina Palace. At that time, they invited 400 guests, including many royals.

Second career: style role model and influencer

Whether soon to be married or not: next to music, Mafalda’s second passion is fashion. This is reflected in a number of Instagram snapshots and shooting pictures. No wonder the ex-princess now has a good 34,000 followers.

She is currently promoting the Spanish trend label BIMBA Y LOLA, but also likes to reveal her casual, sporty style on stage. Mafalda does not shy away from unconventional cuts, patterns and color combinations – and is therefore considered a trendsetter.

Clearly, the pop princess of Bulgaria is a royal to keep an eye on. Maybe she’ll surprise you with a fashion highlight or a song at her supposed wedding?
