Royals: William + Kate: New Instagram post – and this detail bothers fans

Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s social media team is trying out some new features on Instagram. Fans think they went too far with one.

The Duke, 38, and the Duchess of Cambridge, 38 – or their employees – shared a video on the couple's Instagram account and added a song to it that caused criticism and confusion.

Prince William and "Watermelon Sugar" – that doesn't fit

On September 9th, Prince William, 38, was out and about in Belfast for the UK's Emergency Services Day. The Cambridge communications team then shared impressions on Instagram and added an unusually pop song: "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles, 26. Some social media users find this choice unsuitable. A look at the lyrics doesn't seem bad at first, but the internet is full of speculation that Styles sings about oral sex between the lines. The reactions to the post are correspondingly skeptical.

"Um, dubious music selection" "This song, I can't anymore!" "Positive video, but wrong song selection." "Isn't that song a little naughty for a royal family mail?" "I love you and everything you do, but that's not great at all." "I think this Instagram page represents the future King and Queen of Great Britain, not wannabe influencers. Can we keep it a little more informative and less childish, please?" "Yeah really? Watermelon Sugar 'to represent the monarchy?

The Royals' Instagram account has changed

Today's royals keep up with the times and establish contact with the people via Instagram. A proud 12 million people want to see regular updates from the life of the Cambridges and have clicked on "subscribe". But in the last few weeks it has been shown: Kate and William are becoming more courageous, trying one or the other. Apparently they want to present themselves from a more modern, hip side. Is that due to David Watkins? The former social media manager of Duchess Meghan, 39, and Prince Harry, 35, has been working for Prince William and Duchess Catherine, 38, since April 2020.
