Hospitals are reporting an increasing number of cases with the RS virus
Being sick is almost a part of the cold season – but this year the risk of infection is particularly high.
More and more children’s clinics are warning of a high number of RSV infections. There are two main reasons why more cases have been reported this year.
Numerous children’s hospitals are warning of an alarming increase in RS virus infections; the first cases of the respiratory disease were reported as early as August. An increased number of illnesses does not normally occur until the winter months, which makes the increasing development all the more alarming. The so-called respiratory syncytial virus infection particularly affects young children. While the elderly only have a runny nose or cough, the virus can sometimes lead to more severe courses in premature babies or previously ill patients.

The corona pandemic is also to blame for the many reported RSV diseases: With mouth and nose protection and pronounced hand hygiene, the little ones’ immune system hardly had to actively fight pathogens and viruses for more than a year.
