The publisher of the newspaper Le Soir, the Rossel Group, and the Flemish DPG Media will be the new owners of the French-speaking radio and television group RTL Belgium, as RTL announced in Luxembourg on Monday. The sales price is 250 million euros.
As the majority owner, the RTL Group only secured the remaining 34 percent in RTL Belgium at the beginning of December. This includes the TV channels RTL-TVI, Club RTL and Plug RTL, the radio channels Bel RTL, Radio Contact and the digital channel Mint. If the regulators approve the deal, it should be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
Most recently, the RTL Group had strategically realigned. In the Netherlands, RTL Nederland merged with Talpa Network in order to be able to face global competition such as Netflix and Disney +. In neighboring France, too, the private television companies TF1 and M6 want to merge after lengthy speculation in order to have a stronger position in international competition.
