RTL in Serbia – Because of this RTL reporter, the Djokovics canceled the media conference

Elke Büchter asked Novak Djokovic’s family a critical question at the media conference – which immediately ended the conference. The other journalists on site would have perceived her as polluting the nest, she says now.

  • Novak Djokovic’s family gave a media conference on Monday and gave their views on the visa dispute.

  • However, after the first critical question, the family broke off the media conference.

  • Now the reporter from RTL has spoken out who asked this question.

The Djokovic case continues to cause a stir: The tennis star would like to contest the Australian Open in 2022 – but it is still unclear whether it will come to that. Novak Djokovic’s parents and brother gave a media conference on Monday afternoon and gave their views on the visa dispute. When media workers asked critical questions, the Djokovic family broke off the press conference immediately. Now a reporter from RTL, who was present at the media conference, has commented on it.

«Corona-compliant there was nothing»

Djokovic and his family are heroes for “almost all reporters on site” who fight for freedom, writes Elke Büchter. “Nothing was Corona-compliant,” she says of the media conference in Serbia. “I briefly considered whether I really wanted to do this to myself.” The room was far too full and people had “almost killed themselves” to get pictures. Keeping your distance was not possible. Many people would not have worn a mask – “the majority of the others had them under their noses”.

The first critical question at the media conference came from the RTL reporter: “Does Djokovic regret not having vaccinated?” The reaction to this was “icy” and there was no real answer. But the reporter persisted and asked further questions: “Was Djokovic’s test positive on December 16? And did he still take part in public events on the following days? ” Djokovic’s mother then declined and his brother declared the media conference over.

Reporter believes that one saw in her a “nest polluter”

“I was pretty surprised,” says Elke Büchter about the family’s reaction. “I didn’t think it was such a drama.” No other journalist tried to ask another question. In their eyes, she is probably a nest polluter, says the RTL reporter.

On Monday night, an Australian judge ruled that Djokovic was allowed to leave the isolation in the country. His family then celebrated the decision as the “greatest victory of his career”. Whether Djokovic will actually be allowed to compete at the Australian Open is still open.
