RTL / ntv trend barometer: Majority in favor of general vaccination

RTL / ntv trend barometer
Majority for general compulsory vaccination

For a long time, the vast majority of Germans were against compulsory vaccination for everyone. But that has changed. According to the trend barometer from RTL and ntv, a slim majority is in favor. This is mainly supported by the supporters of three parties.

There has been a change in mood in Germany on the question of the general compulsory vaccination. As a Forsa survey for the RTL / ntv trend barometer shows, a slim majority is now in favor. 53 percent would agree, 46 percent against. That looked very different in the summer. In August, 33 percent were in favor of the mandatory corona vaccination. In June there were even fewer.

Supporters of the Union and SPD can gain the most from the compulsory vaccination. 64 percent (Union) and 62 percent (SPD) each speak out in favor of them. The Greens and FDP are slightly divided, with the Greens there is a tendency to yes, with the Liberals to no to the mandatory injection. The rejection is strong among left-wing voters (60 percent), even stronger among those of the AfD (79). The values between East and West differ, but not very much. In the East, 50 percent are against a duty and 50 are for it. In the West there are more supporters of duty than opponents (53 to 45).

Consent for limited vaccination requirements

The tendency is clearer when it comes to the question of compulsory vaccinations for certain occupational groups – namely nursing professions, daycare staff and teachers. 73 percent of those surveyed said that everyone who works in these areas should be vaccinated. In the west it is 75 percent, in east Germany 62 percent. The approval of voters from the SPD and Union is particularly high (each more than 80 percent), but supporters of the Greens, FDP and left also signal approval. Only in the AfD electorate is this weakened form of mandatory vaccination clearly rejected – by 63 percent.

The recently presented plans by the SPD, Greens and FDP do not provide for any compulsory vaccination. However, there should be compulsory testing for certain occupational groups, for example in nursing. Free tests should also come back. In other countries there is already compulsory vaccination for nursing staff, for example in France and Greece. In this country it is not clear whether this would be compatible with the Basic Law.
