RTL+: You can do this if there are problems and errors with the service

TROUBLESHOOTING

RTL+ doesn’t work or you can’t watch individual content? For these and other errors and problems, we provide you with suitable solutions here.

The TV streaming service RTL+ offers programs a week before the first broadcast, live streams from various TV channels and much more. You can stream the content on PC, smartphone, smart TV and other devices. However, sometimes the service does not work as it should.

This can then have something to do with a fault with the live TV provider. If this is the case, you have to wait until it is fixed. You can see the current status of this via our fault indicator for RTL+. Also check your internet connection, sometimes this is also the cause of the difficulties. With our DSL problem solver you can get most of them under control.

RTL+ shows “DRM” or “VPN” error

RTL + shows you the error messages “DRM” or “VPN”.

If you see the error message “DRM” on your screen, the stream cannot be started due to license restrictions. If, on the other hand, “VPN” is displayed, you should switch off your VPN connection. If RTL+ detects an activated VPN connection, your connection will be blocked. After deactivation, playback should start if you are within the EU.

RTL+ shows error “403”

You start RTL+ and see the error “403”.

The “403” error on RTL+ is associated with use abroad on the Internet. If you use a Premium or Max account from RTL+, you can watch German live streams throughout the EU. To do this, however, you must deactivate VPN connections or your proxy. In addition, certain content is only available in Germany for licensing reasons.

RTL+ official app doesn’t work

You’re using the RTL+ app, but you can’t watch any content with it.

In contrast to some other streaming services, you can only watch content on RTL+ with a paid subscription via the apps. As a user of the free version, you cannot use the app or view any content there. Instead, you have to access the offer via the browser and the official RTL+ website.

RTL+ shows error “998”

You start RTL+ and get the error message “998”.

The “998” error message is associated with the Amazon Fire TV Stick on the web. So check whether your internet connection works on the streaming stick and reinstall the app if necessary. If RTL+ is still not running, you can go to the settings on your Fire TV Stick. The RTL+ cache can be cleared in the app manager, which can also fix the problem. If you don’t know what to do, contact RTL+ support further down on this page.

RTL+ shows the error “Adblocker”

You start a stream via a free RTL+ account and see the “Adblocker” error message.

If you use RTL+ Free with an adblocker, the service will be blocked for you. Since RTL+ is ad-supported, you must allow advertising via your browser.

App crashes or won’t start

You start the app on your mobile device or smart TV and it closes immediately.

In this case, RTL+ recommends that you reinstall the app and restart the device if necessary. An update of the operating system should also prevent this error.

RTL+ shows error “401”

You are using RTL+ and the error “401” is displayed.

The service does not reveal what the error codes on RTL + stand for. However, restarting your device or reinstalling the app should also help here. Disabling proxy connections or your VPN can also help solve the problem.

Black screen

You turn on a stream from RTL+ and only see a black screen.

First of all, try restarting the stream again. If the screen stays black, you should reinstall the app or restart the device you are using. If that doesn’t work either, you should contact RTL+ support, stating the device you’re using and your subscription.

The video does not start or breaks off

Your video is loading but won’t start or keeps stopping during playback.

In this case, RTL+ recommends on its website that you upgrade your browser to the latest version. You can also clear your browser cache. Certain programs are also not broadcast on the Internet for legal reasons.

RTL+ jerky

You have started a stream or a video and the playback is jerky.

If you experience stuttering when playing RTL+ content, you should check the speed of your internet connection. Simply use our DSL speed test and check whether the speed meets the minimum requirement of 768 kilobits per second.

RTL+ shows the error “Too many devices”

You start RTL+ on a new device and see the error message “Too many devices”.

In terms of licensing, you can only use RTL+ on a maximum of five devices. If you exceed this number, you must delete a device under “My profile” -> “Settings” -> “Device management”.

This is how you reach the support of RTL+

RTL+ answers technical questions in an extensive support area. Here you can search specifically for your problems or contact customer service. He is ready to answer any questions or problems you may have by phone or via the contact form.

To submit a request to RTL+, you must indicate which device you want to use the service on. This allows the employees to answer your questions more specifically and give you an individual solution. Alternatively, you can also call the RTL+ hotline. You can find them in the imprint on the RTL+ website.

Cancel RTL+

Are you dissatisfied with RTL+ or can’t get the service going at all? Then you can cancel your paid subscription to RTL+ at the end of each month. You don’t have to write an e-mail or a letter for this, just visit the RTL+ account management on the homepage. Subscriptions cannot be terminated via the RTL+ app.

If you are now looking for an alternative to RTL+, you are in luck. Because we have tested numerous live TV providers for you. There are no exclusive previews like RTL+ – instead there are additional channels, recording functions and much more.
